Simone Casiraghi

Simone Casiraghi is a PhD student at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). Early in his studies, he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in philosophy at the University “Vita-Salute San Raffaele” in Milan (2016), where he combined his interests in bioethics with neuroscience and psychology. His dissertation was on the possibility and desirability of “Moral Enhancement” technologies, that is, the use of biomedical means to modulate people’s behaviour.

In 2018 he obtained his Masters of Science in Philosophy of Science, Technology and Society at the University of Twente, where he acquired a background in STS studies and in the field of assessment of emerging technologies. In particular, he specialized in surveillance technologies and privacy, and he graduated with a thesis on biometrics and identity management.

Professionally, he worked as an intern for Eticas Research and Consulting in 2018 on, among other things, ABC4EU, a EU funded project whose aim is to make border control more flexible and efficient by enhancing the workflow and harmonizing the functions of the so-called “e-gates”.
